From The Presidency

Commencement of certain sections of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013
The Presidency has announced the commencement of specific sections of the POPI Act. For more detail, view the official press release.

  • “...The Act has been put into operation incrementally…  a number of remaining sections which has now been proclaimed by the President. The relevant sections and applicable dates are as follows: 
    • Sections 2 to 38; sections 55 to 109; section 111; and section 114 (1), (2) and (3) shall commence on 1 July 2020.
    • Sections 110 and 114(4) shall commence on 30 June 2021....”


From the FIC and National Treasury

Consultation Paper relating to the Proposed Amendments of the Schedules to the FIC ACT, 2001 (ACT 38 OF 2001)
The Financial Intelligence Centre  is pleased to advise that the Minister of Finance, in terms of sections 73, 75 and 76 of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 2001 (Act No. 38 of 2001 – “the FIC Act”), proposes to amend Schedules 1, 2 and 3 to the FIC Act.
 
The consultation paper which provides an explanation of the proposed amendments, the proposed amendments, including a media release, are published on the National Treasury website.
 
Written comments are invited on the proposed amendments, which should be submitted by close of business on 18 August 2020.

    • The Amendments come into operation 30 days from the Publication of this Notice.
